{"id":55648,"date":"2023-02-14T15:33:49","date_gmt":"2023-02-14T20:33:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mentalhealthcommission.ca\/?post_type=resource&#038;p=55648"},"modified":"2025-08-28T11:04:28","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T15:04:28","slug":"veteran-experiences-with-cannabis-and-mental-health","status":"publish","type":"resource","link":"https:\/\/mentalhealthcommission.ca\/resource\/veteran-experiences-with-cannabis-and-mental-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Veteran Experiences with Cannabis and Mental Health"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the strong interest in the relationship between cannabis use and mental health in the Veteran and Veteran family community, <a href=\"https:\/\/mentalhealthcommission.ca\/resource\/cannabis-and-mental-health-priorities-for-research-in-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published research<\/a> on the topic in Canada is limited, with even less that is specific to the Veteran context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To begin addressing these challenges, we led a series of four dialogues with the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families, asking Veterans, Veteran family members, service providers, and researchers about their perspectives on cannabis use and mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inspired by what we heard, we co-hosted a webinar with the Atlas Institute to highlight key knowledge and research priorities and to hear first-hand insights from notable experts with lived and living experience:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Samuel Breau, Manager, Access to Quality Mental Health Services, MHCC<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MaryAnn Notarianni, Deputy CEO and Vice-President, Knowledge Mobilization, Atlas Institute<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Polliann Maher, Lived Expertise Lead, Families, Atlas Institute<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glynne Hines, Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dr. R\u00e9becca Robillard, Associate Professor, School of Psychology, University of Ottawa, and Scientist, Institute for Mental Health Research at The Royal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dr. Sherry H.
