This document synthesizes key themes that emerged from three studies exploring the relationship between cannabis and mental health among immigrant, refugee, ethnocultural, and racialized (IRER) populations, with a particular focus on youth.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key findings:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>IRER populations have distinct risk and protective factors that shape the relationship between cannabis and mental health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cannabis is often used as an alternative to formal supports and systemic barriers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IRER youth want culturally tailored information, techniques, and supports that empower them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Interested in the other reports in this series? <a href=\"https:\/\/mentalhealthcommission.ca\/resource\/closing-research-gaps-on-cannabis-and-mental-health-key-findings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Find them here!<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past five years, the MHCC has led a pan-Canadian research program to assess the impact of cannabis legalization and use on the mental health of diverse populations.
