This document synthesizes key themes that emerged from several studies led by and with youth (ages 13\u201330) across Canada to understand their relationship with cannabis and mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note: <\/strong>Young people are not a monolithic group, and factors that influence their unique relationship with cannabis and mental health vary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-findings\"><strong>Key findings:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The relationship between cannabis use and psychosis risk among youth continues to be a concern.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Young people demonstrate self-awareness about cannabis use and report a mix of benefits and harms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to health care and social supports have a strong influence on youth cannabis use and mental health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meaningful youth engagement is essential to better understand and respond to youth needs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Interested in the other reports in this series? <a href=\"https:\/\/mentalhealthcommission.ca\/resource\/closing-research-gaps-on-cannabis-and-mental-health-key-findings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Find them here!<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past five years, the MHCC has led a pan-Canadian research program to assess the impact of cannabis legalization and use on the mental health of diverse populations.
